Maison Fargues Lot France Review

We recently stayed at Maison Fargues in Lot France. Terrible experience, the whole weeks stay was ruined by the owners and their employees, not to mention the farm house itself is absolutely filthy and mis advertised. Upon arrival we found bleach, cleaning fluids and dishwasher tablets well within the reach of children. Rather oddly there are no cupboards in the kitchen either to secure these. The work tops in the kitchen are dirty with ground in dirt and the whole place has a film of filth. There is a settee in the sitting room which is revolting and belongs in a student house, and the carpets are stained and very dirty. We had a rather interesting visitor on the first night and he popped back each night to say hi, unfortunately he was a RAT! This made it very difficult to sleep with all his scratching and gnawing right above your head in the bedroom. If all of this isn’t bad enough, the caretaker payed us a visit, and a more disagreeable character I’ve never met in my life. Unable to appreciate we were on holiday he proceeded to tell us about his life and criminal activities and was very difficult to get rid of. To be honest not what I expected. The owners charged us 10 pounds per night to heat the pool, and on the second night of paying this and well before the pool actually heated up the caretaker filled the pool up with freezing water from a hose pipe. Thanks! The place is right next to a farm, not a nice farm with donkeys and the like, but a huge breezeblock shed full of sheep, and the flies and smell in unbelievable. Clearly the owners appreciate this as they provide ample fly spray and electrocution devices hung from the walls, so our evenings where filled with stinking sheep, noisy sheep and the popping of flies as they met their end.

Upon our return we were greeted with an email from the owners having the cheek and arrogance to say in a very rude manner that we had left the place in a mess. Both the cleaner and caretaker blamed us for leaving the place in a poor state. Before we left, we cleaned the place top to bottom and left it in a much better state than when we arrived. After much toing and froing with the thieving owners, they have refused to refund the 500 pound deposit we gave them in good faith for "breakages" I quote their Terms and Conditions, stating that they had to pay this to their lazy cleaning staff because they had to clean their already filthy house. Do not stay at Maison Fargues there are much better places in France. The previous week we stayed in a lovely place on a proper farm just an hour down the road close to Najac.

After 2 months and a court case we finally got our deposit back.
